17.8. Tiananmen square protest documentaries (六四事件纪录片)
The problem of most documentaries is that they are just a bunch of modern interviews with very very quick scenes interspersed.
It would be much more effective to just let the actual scenes sink in by themselves in a fuller uncommented format.
Basically, more footage.
The Gate of Heavenly Peace (1995, 天安门纪录片) is by far the least worse in this aspect.
It is also extremelly difficult to find a good footage database! Ony a journalist would be able to find it.
Some good footage:
-
man showing bullet cases + bullet holes on windows on July: https://www.gettyimages.co.uk/detail/video/news-footage/83245439?adppopup=true
-
the dust storm on May 31st!
